Why I Started Blogging

February 23, 2017

I’m going to be talking about why I started blogging and a few things I’ve learned so far. I absolutely love blogging, and I wish I would have started sooner. I like to use my blog as a way to share the things I love. I adore fashion, beauty, and travel and I try to incorporate all three as much as I can. I have been blogging now for about a month and I have met so many great bloggers so far! I am so thankful for the encouragement and support I have been given!

Initially, I had set up a blog about a year ago, but I never posted or used it. During my senior year of high school in one of my business communications classes, we were told to start a project about something we love, called a genius hour. Whether it be about sports, cooking, fashion, whatever. I decided then to start a fashion and beauty blog. I have always been drawn to pretty things, and I am one of those girls that have a “dream closet” on Pinterest full of adorable clothes I wish I could own! I always had intentions of posting on my blog, but I didn’t know where to start. Eventually, with the help of a friend who had a blog and looking through Pinterest for ideas on how to begin, I officially started posting on the blog, and made a separate Instagram to go with it. Side note – these blog planners are amazing! I keep all of my info organized and plan exactly what I want to post and when!

Although I started blogging just for fun, I put so much work into it. Between the photography, scheduling photoshoots, and writing the actual posts, it can be a lot of work! To me, this is fun work that I enjoy doing. I love photography, and I’ve learned a lot about it since I started blogging. Eventually, I would like to move my blog over to a self hosted site, but for right now, I’m learning to love where I’m at. I’m so glad I was able to start this blog and share part of my life with you! I get excited about going anywhere on vacation, or trying out some new outfits because I know I’ll get to blog about it! ❤️

Just a few things I’ve learned so far throughout my first month of blogging:

  • Talk to other bloggers. This helped me a lot to figure out what was best for me. I contacted some big bloggers, and also some bloggers that were starting out around the same time as me and learned a lot of helpful information. Don’t hesitate to ask questions.
  • Interact with other bloggers’ social media accounts. This is a great way to get noticed by other bloggers writing about the same interests as you. It also helps other people find you as well.
  • Post quality pictures a lot. I tend to post every day because the more you post and use hashtags that have to do with your pictures, the more accounts will notice and follow you. Every day I gain followers thanks to commenting, following other accounts, and hashtags.

Thanks so much for reading along! I hope you have a great weekend! ❤️

Emily

To the girl that can’t let it go, I hear you. I To the girl that can’t let it go, I hear you. I wrote a new blog post just for you, up on prettyinplaids.com now. ❤️ Forgiveness is hard. It’s hard to move past things that hurt so deeply. I hope you will find peace in this post, because I understand how difficult letting go can be.

In other news, I’m feeling so pampered after meeting up with a friend to get a mani/pedi. I don’t do it often, but I just love getting my nails done. Having pretty nails makes me feel so confident. What have you done recently that makes you feel confident?
I was published in a national magazine! I have bee I was published in a national magazine! I have been keeping it a little secret from Instagram for a couple days, but one of my chalk paint projects was published in the June/July issue of @countrywomanmagazine! This is such an honor for me. I have dreamed of this moment and I still can’t believe it actually happened. I wrote a whole blog post that’s live now, so head to the link in my bio to read it! I am so grateful to have this space to share my ideas and designs, and to you all who support me along the way. You can find the magazine at places like Barnes and Noble, Target, Walmart, etc... all throughout the US and Canada. I can’t wait for you to read it! ❤️
One of my absolute favorite aspects of blogging ha One of my absolute favorite aspects of blogging has to be building relationships with brands that I have grown to love. @coppercure is one of my favorite shops for my love of copper and they were so generous to gift me with this pitcher. The quality is outstanding and it looks beautiful. I threw together a copper styling guide on the blog today and would love for you to check it out! The link is in my bio. ❤️
Spring has definitely made itself known here in Mi Spring has definitely made itself known here in Michigan.
