What to Look for When Antiquing

February 9, 2018

I’ve been planning out this post and everything I wanted to share in it, and I finally thought through everything I wanted to post. The type of antiquing I’m talking about today is vintage decor antiquing, and it’s one of my favorite things to do. My mom and I both have similar decor styles, so it’s so fun to go with her. There are a few antique stores in my area that I go to quite often, as well as vendor markets and the occasional garbage picking as well (I know…kinda weird, but I’ve found some awesome things that would sell for a lot of money at antique stores!!) I used to hate when my mom would garbage pick things off the side of the road, but now I get out and do it with her! Our best garbage picking find was a gorgeous white chippy gate door, I’ll show you here in the post! I love to find unique items, and you’ll see throughout this post that my favorite things to find often have white chippy paint on them! This post might be so weird to you because you buy everything brand new at the store for your home interior decor, but for the fellow “pickers” like myself, I hope you enjoy this antiquing post!

  • White Chippy Paint

Whether it’s a chippy door, some corbels, spindles, window frames or whatever, I always looks for things with white chippy paint on them. Below, you’ll see the white door I just talked about, along with chippy spindles and a picket fence I bought at a vintage vendor market.

  • Wood Boxes

If you like the vintage/farmhouse look right now, then wood boxes will fit right in with your decor.

  • Furniture that can be re-done

I have a few pieces of furniture that I plan on refinishing. I’ve found some vintage end tables and other furniture that will look so good once I finish them! I can’t wait to show you the finished products!

  • Vintage Items

I look for vintage items when I go to vendor markets and different stores. Vintage maps, clocks, scales, flashcards, Christmas cards, and prints are among the many things that I look for. Vintage post cards and learning flashcards look really good with farmhouse decor. I also like to stick to a certain color scheme since a lot of vintage items can be colorful. I love black and white and so does my mom, so we like to find different black and white/cream vintage items while shopping.

  • Ironstone Vases

These are my favorite vases to use! I also stick to cream shades because pure white doesn’t match my style too much.

  • Books

Books are one of my favorite things to decorate with. I look for black, white, and green hardback covers that are in decent condition.

  • Clocks

A few of the clocks I have found out at stores are reproduction, but I always love when I can find a vintage clock.

  • Kitchen Items

Rolling pins, crocks, wooden cutting boards, utensils, and wooden bowls are great finds while antiquing.

  • Urns

These are great to add to your decor.

These are some of my favorite things to look for, hope you enjoyed the post!

Emily

It’s hard to move past things that hurt so deeply. I hope you will find peace in this post, because I understand how difficult letting go can be.

In other news, I’m feeling so pampered after meeting up with a friend to get a mani/pedi. I don’t do it often, but I just love getting my nails done. Having pretty nails makes me feel so confident. What have you done recently that makes you feel confident?
I was published in a national magazine! I have bee I was published in a national magazine! I have been keeping it a little secret from Instagram for a couple days, but one of my chalk paint projects was published in the June/July issue of @countrywomanmagazine! One of my absolute favorite aspects of blogging ha One of my absolute favorite aspects of blogging has to be building relationships with brands that I have grown to love. @coppercure is one of my favorite shops for my love of copper and they were so generous to gift me with this pitcher. The quality is outstanding and it looks beautiful. I threw together a copper styling guide on the blog today and would love for you to check it out! The link is in my bio. ❤️
