I feel like all of my recent blog posts have been about refinishing furniture, but I can’t help myself! Seeing the potential of something old and making it pretty is so exciting to me. I just finished painting this antique stool that I found at a barn sale for only $2! I also tried out the dark antiquing wax specifically made for chalk paint and I loved the result.
Before:
Such a cute stool, but even cuter now that it is painted white and given some added character with dark wax. I look for stools to paint every where I go, they are such cool pieces to use in your decor.
After:
As with all of my previous painting projects that I have shared, I am using the Magnolia Home Chalk Style Paint. This color here is a white called shiplap. I also used the Magnolia Home clear wax and the Kilz brand dark antiquing wax for this project. As I mentioned above, this was my first time trying the antiquing wax and I love the way it looks. I love the added character it gives to pieces that simple clear wax does not give. It is perfect to give an aged look to your piece. Before I used the dark wax, I read and watched several tutorials on how to properly use it. Every single one said to use the clear wax first before your dark wax so you don’t end up staining the paint. This way it is easier to work with and “erase” some of the dark wax if you think you’ve used too much.
I applied both of the waxes with a cloth instead of a wax brush and it worked great for me. I just wipe of the excess and it’s done! I went over the dark wax with some extra clear wax if I thought it looked too dark. I also distressed the stool before I applied the wax to complete the desired look that I was going for. Another great thing about the dark wax is that it made the white paint a little more of a “creamy white” that perfectly matches my furniture!
I hope you are enjoying these before and afters that I am sharing! Hope you all have a great Fourth of July weekend!
