How To Style A Spring Mantle

April 8, 2019

Putting together a fresh mantel for a new season can be really exciting. I love to be creative and try some new and different ideas. I helped my mom put together her spring mantle and I love how it turned out. This is actually her mantel from last year and I love the pops of color. I will be taking you through a step-by-step guide to help you achieve the look that you want. Of course, everyone’s preference when it comes to decorating can differ, but there are some basic principles to stand by that will have your house looking good and put together.

Step One: Start with a clean slate

This one may seem pretty obvious, but starting with a clean slate by taking everything off of your mantle will help to clear your mind and get your creativity flowing. I like to remove all of the items and then choose a few different things that I know for sure will work.

Step Two: Pick a focal point

You always want to have a main focus while creating a vignette and putting together a mantle is no exception. In the photo below, can you tell what the main focus is? The Bulbs & Seeds container is the focal point and the flowers add even more dimension to it. If you start with the focal point first, everything else will be much easier to fit around and put into place.

Step Three: Use Texture

Using texture will help to give your mantle dimension and depth. As you can see from the photo below, the flowers, burlap, and greens really give some nice and different texture to the look. This keeps your space from looking too generic and will give you a unique look.

Step Four: Use varying height

Using varying heights can help to make your mantle look polished and put together. In the photo below, the Bulbs & Seeds container is taller than the galvanized container right next to it. The seed packets hung on the wall behind them are all higher than those to create dimension.

Step Five: Give it your own personal touch

Everyone’s decorating is always a little different, even if you have similar taste. Use decor that you love and is special to you. Being in your home should make you feel happy and you should love the space you’re in. Being unique and adding your own personal touches can make you mantel special to you.

I hope this post gave you some inspiration for how to decorate your own fireplace mantle. If you have any questions or comments, be sure to leave them below in the comment section! I would love to know how you like to decorate for spring!

Design is something I always struggled with. I feel comfortable saying I am creative in many other outlets such as writing and music, however visual design is a constant struggle. This blog definitely helps give me ideas of what to look for when designing. The focal point is something I tend to forget. I tend to clutter. I realized that recently and it is something I am working on fixing, but years of doing the same is hard to change.
