How Home Decor Can Inspire Hospitality

April 29, 2019

In this post, I am interviewing my mom who loves home decor and entertaining. I believe that hospitality is important and as Christians, can aid in leading a life that can minister to others. An encouraging brunch, helpful Bible Study, or any event where you are welcoming people into your home can be a great way to minister to others and share Christ. I’ve asked a few questions below and my mom has answered them in the way that she has used them in her own experience.

Q: How do you think home decor can help aid in hospitality?

A: By providing a welcoming atmosphere for your guests to come and relax in your home. I like to hit all the senses: sight – home decor, sound – relaxing background music, scent – a nice scented candle, touch – comfy chairs with warm blankets and comfy pillows, and taste – a delectable dinner and dessert.

Q: As a Christian, why do you think it is important to be hospitable?

A: Because it is in the Bible, it is an important aspect to minister to other believers and to minister to your community, neighbors, and friends.

Q: Do you think home decor really matters when it comes to being hospitable?

A: I think decor in your home can set a mood of tranquility and can make it a peaceful place for people to gather whether it be family or friends or neighbors.

Q: What kind of message do you want others to take from the way you decorate your home?

A: I want people to know that I am thankful for the home that God has given me and that I take pride in taking care of it. My desire is that when people visit, it is a time of refreshment and fellowship.

Q: Since you said that home decor aids in hospitality, can you give us a biblical example of hospitality?

A: In the early church they would gather in each others homes. The Bible teaches that we are to love our neighbor and this is how the early church grew, by welcoming strangers for a meal or gathering. They would share their faith with them during this time as well.

I hope this interview gave you a glimpse into how home decor can aid in hospitality. Through it, we are able to have opportunities to share Christ and what He has done for us.
