My Handmade Christmas Cards

December 18, 2020

I was so happy to send out Christmas cards this year! This is my first time sending them out and I knew I wanted them to be very special. I thought 2020 would be the perfect year to start, especially because we all could use a few more festive touches to our holiday season. I wanted cards that were unique and different, so I decided to make them myself. I picked up some supplies at Hobby Lobby and had so much fun brainstorming ideas. Obviously, I wanted to incorporate some plaid, but I didn’t want it to be too overwhelming.

To start, I took brown craft paper cards and stamped them on both sides. I picked these stamps because they had such a beautiful design and I thought they would go with my look perfectly. The forest of trees and the log cabin in the woods both added the perfect touch of rustic, Christmas, and coziness. I chose black ink because I thought it would look nice with the brown craft paper.

Next, I added the plaid and small paper banner. I also added a few pearls to a few of the cards. One of the unique aspects of creating your own Christmas cards is that you don’t have to make them all the same. I tried to make each card look a little different, which I think adds so much character to the entire process.

The paper banners added so much texture, dimension, and detail to these cards. I knew I wanted to incorporate them with the plaid and loved how they turned out. I was debating on using a larger paper pennant and cutting out the plaid paper to lay underneath, but my mom recommended the plaid on the top or sides with the smaller banner and I really loved the idea and ran with it. I tend to have these huge ideas that aren’t always the most practical, so I’m thankful for my mom who helps me out to keep things functional. 😉

Lastly, I added some gold wax seals to the back of the envelopes. These were the perfect finishing touch. They added just the right amount of detail to the design of these cards. This was my first time using wax seals so I definitely need a little more practice, but it is such a fun process to learn!

I hope to mail these out tomorrow and I can’t wait for my sweet friends and family to receive them! Do you send out Christmas cards? I think it might be a new tradition for me. Merry Christmas, everyone!

With Love, Emily
