I can barely contain my excitement as I type this blog post out. It has been a dream of mine for years to be featured in a national magazine, and it finally happened! I was featured in the June/July 2021 issue of Country Woman Magazine. What a surreal experience to say the least. I still can’t believe that it actually happened to me. I see other bloggers and designers get featured all the time, even small bloggers like me without a huge following. I never thought that it would actually happen for me, though, and I am ecstatic. The biggest reason for sharing my designs and writing this blog is to inspire, and I am thrilled that my work has the ability to inspire the readers of not only my blog, but now this magazine as well. Seeing that come into play is not only an immense honor, but it is something that I am so grateful to God for. He gave me the talents and abilities that I have and I am so grateful that I get to teach and inspire others with them.
One of my favorite things about this entire experience is that my mom’s side of the family was all visiting from Wisconsin when I got the letter and magazine in the mail. To be able to enjoy and celebrate this with all of them made it all the better. My dad had handed the envelope to me and I had no idea what it could be since I knew I had not ordered anything from them. I started to have a gut feeling when I pulled out a magazine and saw a letter attached. The words “thank you for being a part of our magazine” will forever be engrained into my mind. What a surreal feeling. I was so excited to show everyone. Of course, I immediately started crying because of the complete shock that this was actually happening. Have I mentioned that I am quite emotional? I am, and this was no exception.
It truly is such an honor to be featured in a popular national magazine like Country Woman. My friends and family have been so supportive of my work and blog and I am so thankful to have this magazine article in my portfolio. Walking into a store like Barnes and Noble and seeing a magazine in the racks that features you is truly incredible. I haven’t been able to stop squealing about it, although I think my family might wish that I would stop, LOL.
My feature consisted of a chalk painted piece of furniture that I had taken on a few years ago. You can read my original blog post on this piece here. This was one of my favorite finds my mom and I found on someone’s curb. I knew as soon as I saw it that it could be beautiful again. With some paint, I was able to completely transform the piece, giving it a brand new look and feel. One of the many things that I love about furniture is how personal it can be. New furniture now is over-produced and IKEA-like quality. While I do enjoy strolling the isles of IKEA for inspiration and picking up a few pieces of home decor here and there, when it comes to furniture, I want to be as unique as possible. That is why antique or even just older furniture can make a great substitution for the newer pieces of much lesser quality.
I have had so many people ask where to purchase the June/July 2021 issue of the Country Woman magazine. It is a nationwide publication so it should be available anywhere magazines are sold, depending on what that particular business has ordered. Places like Barnes and Noble, Target, Lowe’s, Walmart, and even your local grocery store may carry the magazine. I’ve shown a picture of the cover and my feature above so if you’re looking, look for the cover that says “Scoop up Summer!” You can also order directly online by visiting shop.tasteofhome.com. I don’t think the June/July issue is available online as of yet, but it should be very soon!
I just wanted to thank those of you that have truly supported my blog and my passions. It is very clear when someone is truly happy for you and when someone isn’t. I am thankful for those of you who truly are happy and excited for this fun achievement. I can’t wait to continue posting on this blog and share my ideas and designs with all of you.
With Love, Em
